“Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times”

Matthew 18:22

All: Merciful and Loving God, we place before you the women whose lives have

been tragically taken. Receive them into Your loving embrace and comfort their families and all who mourn their loss.

Women: Heal the wounds in our communities and free our hearts from fear, anger and violence. Make us instruments of Your peace - where there is hatred, let us

sow love; where there is injury, healing; Where there is despair, hope; and where there is darkness, let us bring Your light.

Men: We pray especially for our men: make

us men of compassion, self-control, courage and responsibility. Help us to respect and protect, and speak against violence, and to build homes and communities where women and children are safe.

Women: Lord, teach us not only to seek to

be understood, but to understand; not only to seek to be loved, but to love. May we

never become indifferent to the suffering

of another.

All: Lord, make us instruments of your peace, so that through our words, our choices and actions, your love may overcome violence and Your light may overcome the darkness. Amen.

Dear Brothers and Sisters

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts

that we mourn the recent tragic murders of the women in Ekurhuleni.

In the midst of all the pain and

anxiousness,

let us not lose faith or hope. Let us stand strong in the Lord, keeping in mind that

"God remains close to the broken hearted" (Psalm34:18).

As we try to comprehend this senseless killings, I would like to take this moment to make a heartfelt appeal to all men and more specifically to the men of our parish. Let us take seriously our responsibility to promote a culture of respect, safety and care.

Treating women and children with dignity, listening rather than intimidating, refusing

to tolerate violence or abusive behaviour and speaking up when we see others being threatened or mistreated. Let us also teach our sons, by our own example, that strength is shown through self-control, respect and responsibility.

Beloved, may our faith move us not only

to pray, but also to act with courage.

Building our homes to become places

where every woman is treated with dignity, every child is protected and every person is reminded that they are precious in the eyes of God.

In conclusion, as we celebrate Heritage Day on 24 September, may we give thanks for the richness of our diverse heritage, and commit ourselves to building a South Africa where every person, South African and non-South African alike, is respected, valued and treated with dignity

In prayer, and Service.
