Your voice saying, “Courage!
It is I! Do not be afraid.”
Quiet my anxious thoughts, increase my trust in You,
and grant me the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Matthew 14:27
In today’s Gospel (Matthew 14:22-33), the disciples are trapped in a terrifying storm. Their greatest battle is not the raging sea, but the paralyzing fear inside them.
When Jesus approaches, His very first words are: Courage! It is I!
Do not be afraid.”
Peter steps onto the water, but the moment he lets fear take over, he begins to sink. Fear magnifies our problems and blinds us to God’s power. Yet, the moment we cry out, “Lord, save me!”, Jesus immediately reaches out His hand to catch us.
“Do not be afraid” is the most repeated invitation in scripture. This week, stop looking at the height of the waves. Look at Christ, trust His outstretched hand, and let His peace cast out your fear.
